Last night Mom, Dad, and I went to the Wasatch House fundraiser. It was good to see some of my former co-workers and catch up. Since I am still on the strictest phase of my diet, I could only eat the meat they served. It was hard (they served better than ... cake, baked potatoes, pasta salad... YUM) but I exercised my will power and overcame temptation. But the funnest part of the evening was actually holding in my paws an olympic gold and bronze medal.
Rulon Gardner was the keynote speaker at the event and he passed his medals around for everyone to see. I barely remembered his story, except he beat some Russion guy. Well as I learned last night, it wasn't just some Russian guy- the man was a bit of a giant! He was born 15 lbs, and had only grown bigger then anybody else in his country!!! Anyway, this Russian guy had NEVER lost a match. 3 olympic gold medals, 9 world championships.
Gardner also talked about his leaning disability. He started college with a 5th grade reading level. He was able to graduate from Nebraska with a degree in physical education. I was impressed with that.
All in all it was a great evening. Dad appeared to be back in his element hob nobbing with the likes of Jeurgen Korbanka (Executive Director of Wasatch Mental Health), Ted Terry, and of course Debbie and Bryce. Mom even put some moves on Rulon- After his speach Mom tapped him on his shoulder and whispered in his ear "That was so exciting".
It was a fun night and Clubhouse was able to raise quite a bit of money for their new facility.
